‘All that to say – baking was quite a different pursuit. I just figured it would always be a hobby and I was totally cool with that. The pandemic led to an outrageous volume of baking coming out of the kitchen and being dropped at neighbors’ houses (because I have no sweet tooth, ironically), and a friend suggested I start something local. I certainly resisted at first, my identity was pretty wrapped up in my other work…but twelve months later I figured – what’s there to lose! I gave it a whirl. Bonnie and Andrew had their friend Nicola Collie of Picnic Baked Goods create two cakes for their celebration. "Our wedding cake was a three-tiered citrus olive oil cake with orange blossom soak and citrus curd between the layers and finished with salted vanilla and swiss meringue buttercream," says Bonnie. "I love chocolate, so we also had a flourless chocolate cake."

They also cut a cake from Pinic Baked Goods that had blue frosting in the middle. Samantha felt “truly over the moon—no pun intended.”

Then, the couple stepped away to cut their delicious wedding cake from Picnic Baked Goods. Thankfully, because Morada is so remote, Joshua Tree’s noise ordinance wasn’t a problem, and the celebrations continued throughout the night.
